GROWING A CULTURE OF WORSHIP IN YOUR CHILDREN

GROWING A CULTURE OF WORSHIP IN YOUR CHILDREN

I started following one of my mentors in Kids ministry recently and I’ve been privileged to get insight into some of her powerful resources. I will be sharing with you the lessons I got so far about growing the culture of worship in our children.
Remember, my previous post was about the mind of the child and how we can create the right environment for the utmost goal of reaching their full potential. The mind is said to be absorbent in the first 6years of life, hence the need for deliberate actions towards the spiritual development of their life.
Here we go….
Just waiting until you get to church to worship isn’t enough—for yourself or for your kids. It needs to be a part of every family’s spiritual life all week. It is therefore important to worship in front of your kids—in the car or at home.
Our example makes a difference in children’s spiritual life and future!
Look at these verses in Psalm 145:3-4:
Lord, you are great. You are really worthy of praise.
No one can completely understand how great You are.
Parents will praise Your works to their children.
They will tell about Your mighty acts.
They will speak about Your glorious majesty.
These verses show us how important it is to teach and show our kids how to worship
  1. How about playing such songs for car rides and time at home so that you can have a family praise celebration wherever you are. I have come across a lot of short videos on social media platforms of families having their children sing along to worship songs in their car and family time. Personally, my two year old daughter can sing a lot of Sinach and Frank Edward’s songs before she even hit the big Two. She just seats in her car seat quietly watching in admiration how Mummy and Daddy were enjoying the music. Then one day, she was mumbling the words and right now, she can perfectly sing the words of the songs. I marvel at the way she even show the emotions, make signs and forms the beats. I’ll make a video of her someday and share.

She might not understand the meaning right away, but I know it’s just a matter of time
  1. Have you thought of having a special Karaoke night at home, with a special family dinner, gifts and invite friends or family over…Here you can get to put off the Television set for a while and get to worship God in a fun way with your children? This makes them learn that worship is very important and it is a big deal. I am personally going to try this out.
  1. In place of going to the movies or shopping, take them along for a worship concert in your local assembly or somewhere in town. Expose them to the big stage and let them see beyond the four walls of the church that worship is cool. This can work more for PRE-TEENS AND TEENAGERS.
  1. Encourage your kids to participate in worship during church service. Words of encouragement do wonders to validate a child’s emotional development. Do not leave them to wander around during service/worship. Get them involved.
         5.    There is power when kids worship. Their worship can impact families and entire                       churches in ways that we can’t even imagine.
        6.    Get on the internet for ideas, get creative, teach them the old style of worship and also            get into the modern world and expose them to the trending worship gigs.
