Motivation Tuesday: What’s Wrong with being Average?

Our motivation today was inspired by the picture of the captured above:

I do not know who sent in the picture but I give great kudos to whoever designed and captured the picture, and also to the management and staff of Kennedy Space Center for such an inspiration.

To some this might seem a difficult mathematical equation be as I former student of mathematics and statistics I find it quite intriguing to see such a statement well captured as a mathematical equation.

The equation does not solve any mathematical problem be a charge to its readers who are able to decipher its meaning. It is an English statement that is meant to deliver a charge of inspiration to its readers. When translated it reads; “Be greater that average”. This begs me to ask the question “What’s exactly is wrong with being average”?  Isn’t it a good thing to not be doing too bad in what we do? One would say at least it’s not too bad at least you are doing better than others that are doing really badly or so you think.
I would tell you what’s wrong with being average.

1,          It makes you live below what God made original Gen1:26
In the Bible, the creation story was told in Genesis chapter one. In verse 26 of this chapter we find God stating His intent to create MAN; the best of all He created, the workmanship of His hands, the crown of His creative abilities. The next verse then states that “God created MAN”. Thus God while creating made us whole and not average, God made man. He did not make “the average man”. We hear of “the average man” and this is used to generalize people when descriptions are made but I refuse to be generalized as such because it brings us below the original intent of God for us. It makes us fall short of all what God calls us, MAN. So do not allow yourself to be averaged or called average, to not even leave the average life, live life to its fullest for God never made you average, “God made MAN”.

2,         Reduces to Mediocrity
This is the quality of being not very good. It also means not very bad either. I see it as a state on confusion where one is “not standing for anything thus falling for everything”. The challenge with this is that God abhors it. Revelation 3:14-16. God wrote to the church in Laodicea charging them to be either hot or cold because He was set to spew them out for they were neither hot nor cold.
A mediocre hardly achieves anything worth praising because it is neither exciting nor made boring its just there. The end result is that such one gets to be spit out and counted as worthless.

Thus it is necessary we move beyond the point of average. The average student is never called upon to attend any competition, the average worker cannot be called on to handle critical positions.

Making this transition can be achieved by practice, practice and practice till you become a practitioner; one who is well trained with the right skills in a filed. Do you want to break free from the average mark, get practicing.
